Abstract The fatigue behavior of plain concrete has been studied for decades, usually under compressive or tensile loading. Shear loading (mode II) almost completely neglected in the past. In contrast to cylindrical compression tests, this type offers advantage precise load determination and a small, well-defined fracture surface. This paper presents comprehensive experimental campaign 66 shear which was conducted systematically investigate monotonic, cyclic, response high-strength mode II Since material stress is strongly dependent on concurrent lateral stress, new test setup developed allows simultaneous control One potential utilization these tests validation promising hypothesis that suggests development damage at subcritical levels governed by cumulative measure sliding. qualitative influence displacement development, behavior, life analyzed discussed. results indicate there no level life, as long increase strength considered.
